2008 TMNT Fanfiction Competition

Once again, I have to give major appreciation to my staff. Not only for being as much of a tremendous help as they were, but also for finding the voting site we used this year.

Any of you who recall past competitions will remember what a pain it was for the staff once the voting was done. Each vote had to hand-tallied, and besides the process taking quite some time, human error also meant further delays in getting the results out.

Well this year, there are no such problems! I'm happy to say our new voting system was a success. Translation? The results are available right now for your viewing.

Placings are color-coded: blue for first, red for second, and green for third. Certificates are in the works, and I hope to get them out as soon as possible!

So roll out the red carpet and start the drumroll! Here are the 2008 TMNT Fanfiction Competition winners!

Hey there everyone! Once again, I'm here with comp news. Though this time I'm about ready to fall over and die. XD

Thank you all so much for your votes! In the end, we recieved a total of forty-four ballots! That's not bad at all! In order to save space here, I've merely updated the list at this entry if anyone's curious.

Currently, the staff and I are confirming some things, but we do have the results! They should be up in no time- I'm hoping for tonight, but at the latest they should be up tomorrow.

In the mean time, we really wanted to recognize all of the stories that made it into the comp. Really, they were all excellent pieces of fiction- the lot of them. I don't know about you guys, but some of these were new finds for me and I was really happy I got a chance to read them. So kudos to all of the authors for their hard work! :D

We also want to recognize many of the stories that didn't quite make it on the ballot. It was a really difficult decision for us, and there was much debate. Not all of the pre-nominees are listed here- I've chosen not to include those disqualified for one reason or another or those which made it onto the ballot in another category.

Guys, we loved each and every one of these fics. Just because they didn't make the ballot doesn't mean they don't deserve to be recognized. So without further ado, I give you the Honorable Mentions!

For those of you who haven't voted yet- hurry! You have just a little over five hours to do it now!

The hour approaches! Believe it or not, the voting period will be over before you know it! I, however, am here to make sure that you do know it. It's not much fun to be ready to do something only to find out that you weren't in time to do it, right? So for all of you last minute voters out there, I do hope you're reading this.

If you've paid attention to any of my posts regarding the voting deadline, you'll have noticed that it's at 11:59 GMT. I'm not adding the 'GMT' for nothing, folks. We are going to be very strict on this this year. In prior competitions, sometimes we've had problems with readers not understanding when exactly their ballots were due, thus resulting in us having to reopen the voting booth.

This naturally prolongs when the results are ultimately revealed. And when push comes to shove, I don't think that it's entirely fair to so. It's like rewarding the people who didn't read the rules (skimmed them, didn't ask for clarification, etc.) with more time and punishing those who followed them by making them wait.

Thus this is being posted in nearly every place I can think of. I do really want you guys informed so no ones misses out, after all. The more the merrier, and such!

So what exactly do I mean by March 25, 2009 11:59 GMT? In short, 11:59 GMT does not necessarrily mean 11:59 Your Time. Where I live, it actually means 5:59 PM. If you live in New York, it means 7:59 PM. If you live in Australia, it would mean in the afternoon of the following day!

Thus, it's very important for you to know just which time zone you live in and how it compares to the GMT deadline.

This website displays the current GMT time. Note the difference between it and your own to get an idea of when you need to have your ballot it.

Before you go off voting for your favorite stories for 2008, let's review some things.

Firstly, you have until 11:59 PM GMT on March 25, 2009 to turn in your ballot. We'll be posting reminders to various places between now and that appointed time to get your votes in.

After that time comes, however, you will no longer be able to vote. The ballot will be closed directly afterwards, and shan't be re-opened.

Upon filling out the ballot, you'll be required to give us your username and then a link to a profile (at either FF.net, Stealthy Stories, LiveJournal, or Terrapin Tarts) identifying you as such.

You may only turn in one ballot. Double ballots will be dismissed, along with the first one.

Likewise, if you are found voting for yourself, your ballot will also be dismissed.

Characters used for the purpose of roleplaying are forbidden from voting.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them here and I'll do my best to answer them. :D

Hey there! As I'm posting, you surely know what this means, yes?

That's right! It's almost time for the voting to begin! There's just a few days left to the Reading Period, and on March 4, we'll be opening up the booth.

Naturally, even though the 'reading' portion of the competition will be over, you'll still have time to look over stories. I know how the last minute thing works. People often continue to read during the voting period as well. Just remember not to treat this last phase in the competition as if it were the one before it, and all's good.

So get ready! Come Wednesday, the booth will be open! Stay tuned for details. :D
